We Listen and We Don't Judge

We all know that the world of lash extensions is full of tips, tricks, and, let's face it, a few myths. Whether you're a long-time lash artist or just starting, it's easy to get tangled up in the myths about lash extensions that have been floating around for years. But fear not! We're here to set the record straight and help you stay on top of your lash extension education.

At Revoläshion, we listen and we don't judge! We believe in creating a supportive and open environment where lash artists can share their experiences, learn from each other, and grow together. Let’s get into it and discuss some of the most common myths about lash extensions and the truth behind them.

WAIT AT LEAST 24 HOURS BEFORE GETTING YOUR LASHES WET

This is one of the oldest myths about lash extensions in the book. The idea that you must wait a full 24 hours before getting your lashes wet is as outdated as a flip phone. The truth is, cyanoacrylate adhesives (lash adhesives) need moisture to set properly. The curing process begins when moisture is present from the air's humidity. This moisture starts a chemical reaction that causes the cyanoacrylate to polymerize, quickly forming a strong bond.

Ironically, the one thing our clients used to avoid like the plague is what was needed to ensure a strong bond - resulting in great retention! Check out our lash-safe, sting-free cleanser, Cēana.

THE SPRING AND FALL LASH SHED

This one sounds like something out of a fairy tale, doesn't it? The notion that there are specific dates in spring and fall when everyone experiences a lash shed is simply not true. Lash shedding is a natural process that varies from person to person. Factors like stress, diet, and hormonal changes can all affect the lash cycle. So, while some clients might notice more shedding during certain times of the year, it's not a universal phenomenon.

Understanding the natural lash cycle is crucial for lash artists. Each person's lashes grow in cycles, and it's normal for some lashes to shed while new ones are growing in. This process is continuous and doesn't happen on a set schedule for everyone. By staying updated on your lash extension education, you'll be better equipped to explain this to your clients and help them understand that shedding is a normal part of the lash growth process. This knowledge will also help you manage your clients' expectations.

VOLUME FANS MUST BE HANDMADE AND PERFECTLY SYMMETRICAL

While handmade volume fans can be beautiful, they are not the only option. Premade volume fans are a fantastic alternative that can save you time and ensure consistency. Our Clōe Collection premade fans are crafted with precision and care, offering the same high-quality look as handmade fans. They still qualify as "real" volume lashes and can provide your clients with the full look they desire. Plus, using premade fans can help you maintain a steady workflow, allowing you to serve more clients without compromising on quality.

As for symmetry, perfection is not always necessary. Embrace the uniqueness of the style your client would like and get creative with it! The only look that truly requires perfectly symmetrical volume fans is the traditional Russian volume. If your client is looking for a more wispy look, a "wet-look," or any other textured style - asymmetrical fans can enhance the overall effect. These slight variations in fan shape and size can add depth and dimension to your work.

So, don't be afraid to mix it up - experiment with different fan styles and even switch up the colour! Whether you choose handmade or premade fans, the key is to tailor the look to your client's preferences and enhance their natural beauty. By embracing the uniqueness of each set of lashes, you'll create stunning, personalized looks that your clients will love.

YOU SHOULD TAKE A BREAK TO LET YOUR LASHES BREATHE

This myth stems from the days of using .25 for classic lashes. Of course, in those days clients couldn’t wear extensions like that long-term without damage to the natural lash line. Luckily, we’ve come a long way when it comes to styling and mapping lash sets that are an appropriate weight for our clients' natural lashes to maintain long-term. The natural lashes underneath the extensions continue to grow and shed as usual. Taking a break from extensions is not necessary unless a client experiences a sensitivity, an allergic reaction, or the client chooses to take a break. Consistent maintenance and proper aftercare are key to keeping natural lashes healthy and lash extensions looking perfect!

Of course, if your client wants to take a break for any reason, that's 100% okay. Always leave on a good note and leave the door open in case they would like to return for your services one day.

YOU MUST USE PRIMER ON ALL CLIENTS

Check out TrüCleanse in action!

Primers are not a one-size-fits-all solution. While they can be beneficial for some clients, they are not necessary for everyone and can do more harm than good if used on the wrong client. It's important to assess each client's needs and use a primer only when necessary.

It's crucial to start each appointment with a lash bath using a professional lash shampoo (we don't play with baby shampoo anymore) that is specifically designed to gently cleanse the lashes and remove any remaining makeup, sweat, oils, and debris from the natural lashes. This thorough cleansing ensures that you have a perfect base to apply the lash extensions.

Clients with particularly oily skin or lashes may benefit from a primer, as it helps to remove excess oils that can interfere with the adhesive's performance. However, for clients with normal to dry skin and lashes, a primer is not necessary.

HUMIDITY AND TEMPERATURE MUST BE ON POINT FOR GOOD RETENTION

While it's true that there is an optimal humidity and temperature range for your lash adhesive, it's important to remember that your workspace conditions can fluctuate. When the humidity and temperature are slightly "off," you'll notice changes in how your adhesive behaves. For instance, when the humidity and temperature are higher, your adhesive will cure more quickly. When they’re lower, your adhesive will cure more slowly. Of course, there are points on both ends of the spectrum where you will run into inevitable issues, but with a little attention and practice, you can work effectively within these variations.

An important tip to keep in mind is to pay close attention when attaching an extension. If it sticks like a magnet, you're in the perfect zone! However, if you attach the extension and it slightly falls to the side, your humidity is probably too low. This is when a humidifier can be a lifesaver, but it's also good to know that you have a bit of time to quickly adjust that lash to the perfect direction while still maintaining a strong bond. On the other hand, if you attach an extension and it doesn't stick at all, one possible cause could be that your space is too humid, causing the adhesive to start curing before you've even had a chance to place the extension. In this case, a dehumidifier can help, but it's also crucial to practice as much as possible so you can pick up the pace when needed without compromising the quality of your work.
